Beardman ~ Halloween 2007

Chops ~ Halloween 2007
We are a fun-loving Halloween family. We like our costumes simple, yet effective. Beardman's costume in the picture above was very intimidating even though it was just burlap and a straw hat. Underneath he was bloody on his mouth and down his beard. A teacher at school thought he was quite scary when he walked into the classroom, but when he sat down and took the hat and burlap off his head, she was creeped out by the blood. Chops goes with a simple mask and makes it scary. It's cold here so with his costume in the above pic when he went out he had a big black cape over his warm clothes. As he was out trick-or-treating he had to take the mask off to show a scared little kid that it was just another kid under the mask.... way to go Chops!! You did good!!!
My passion for Halloween started at a very young age. I don't know what triggered it, but I have always liked monsters, horror, paranormal and just plain weird and unusual things.
Our yard haunt started out small and grew a little every year. I try to make a few new props each year when I have the supplies. I don't really follow a theme, I just add to the graveyard scene and change it around every year. This year I'm lowering the gore level and will be focusing on more of a "classic Halloween" set up with pumpkins, ghosts, witches and maybe a monster or two.
Our kids, Beardman and Chops (nicknames from school), both enjoy Halloween. Chops still likes to go trick-or-treating and Beardman helps out with the prop building. They both grew up in a house filled with Halloween decorations that were up year 'round. I remember when Chops was little he had a friend over and the friend asked him if he was afraid of the Boogeyman, Chops told him no. When his friend asked why he wasn't, his answer was "The Boogeman won't come here because he's afraid of my mom". Awwwww... how cute is that?!?
We enjoy making Halloween fun for the kids in town. Someday we hope to do a whole haunted house, but for now we'll keep creepin 'em out with the yard haunt.
Happy Haunting!!!
